
Philippa Gregory
Philippa is a prolific author writing successful historical novels. Her bestseller ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ is currently being made into a film. She has also contributed to many television and radio programmes, including a piece on the Hidden Slave Trade for the BBC’s ‘Inside Out’ programme.

Born in Kenya, Philippa returned to England with her family and was educated at school in Bristol and college in Cardiff. She worked as a senior reporter on the Portsmouth News, and as a journalist and producer for BBC radio.
Philippa obtained a BA degree in History at the University of Sussex and was awarded a PhD at Edinburgh University for her research into 18th century literature. This was the start of her lifelong love and interest in English history. She has taught at the University of Durham, the Open University and Teeside Polytechnic, and in 1994 was made a Fellow of Kingston University.
She is now a full-time writer, regarded as one of the most successful writers of historical fiction of her generation. Her novels are published in more than 60 languages world-wide, and sell in the millions. Her books have been adapted for television and film:, A Respectable Trade, set in 18th century Bristol, a haunting story of slave was adapted by her it for a highly acclaimed BBC TV production which was shortlisted for a BAFTA. The Other Boleyn Girl was also adapted for BBC TV in a revolutionary new method of filming historical drama, and later adapted in a second version for the cinema starring Scarlet Johansson, Natalie Portman and Eric Bana.
Philippa makes regular contributions to newspapers and magazines, with travel writing, for which she won the 2006 Spanish Travel writer of the year award. short stories, features and reviews. She is a frequent broadcaster on BBC radio 4 and is the Tudor expert for Channel 4’s Time Team.
