Matthew Wilson
2011 marks an exciting new appointment for Matthew, as Managing Director of Clifton Nurseries, London's oldest plant nursery.
Previous to this appointment Matthew worked for a decade with the RHS, working at both Hyde Hall as Curator, and as Head and Curator of the Harlow Carr site. Most recently Matthew worked as Associate Director for at The Landscape Agency (TLA) where he worked on a number of private high-end domestic, and commercial landscape designs; as well as significant projects for the National Trust and English Heritage.
Having once vowed not to follow the family tradition of gardening (his parents ran a nursery in a small village in Kent), Matthew has now become a very well respected voice with the horticultural field. It was during his time working with his father at a large historic garden in the south of England that Matthew's interest in gardening blossomed. A childhood love of wildlife and the environment has remained a constant theme and has been translated into the management of the Gardens that Matthew has looked after, and his writing, lecturing and broadcasting.
Matthew's knowledge and passion for gardening and horticultural easily translates to screen, and Matthew presented his first television series on Channel 4 in 2010. The Landscape Man, followed ambitious landscaping projects from conception to realisation, and the programme enjoyed critical acclaim, picking up an award as Television Programme of the Year at the 2010 Garden Media Guild Awards. Matthew is also a regular on Radio 4's Gardener's Question Time.
Matthew is a Trustee of the Lowther Castle & Gardens Trust (Cumbria), Board member and horticultural advisor to Horticap (Harrogate), Patron of the Friends of Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as still helping the RHS on a voluntary basis.
