Bisola Alabi is a British-Nigerian writer and performer. Her creative practice is focused on writing for screen, stage and audio. She was an associate playwright at the Bush theatre (2018-2019), where she had her first play commissioned, Exceptional Promise. As well as penning her own work, Bisola is a champion of other writers of colour, co-founding Next Up Talent showcase, an initiative for diverse creators.
Her play Mami Wata was shortlisted for the Nick Darke award and longlisted for Womens Prize For Playwriting and Theatre503’s International Playwriting Award (2020). Her film script Sankara reached the shortlist of the BAFTA Rocliffe competition and an early draft of The Despards was shortlisted for the Debbie’s New Voices award (2018). The Despards then went on to be selected for the Sky Table Reading showcase (2021).
Her work has gone on to be featured in the Hear Me Now Oberon monologue collection and Artistic Directors of the Future: Brexit Talks in Lulu Publishing. After receiving her Law degree from Kent University, she participated in various writing programmes with Soho Theatre, Lyric Hammersmith, Almeida Theatre and more.
