Iona Firouzabadi

Iona is a graduate of the National Film & Television School (MA in Cinematography) and has a BA in
English Literature from Cambridge University.

In Wonderland, her first short film as screenwriter, was developed and funded by Film London and
Southern Exposure, through London Calling 2017. It has screened around the world and in 2018 it
won Best Short Film at Vail Film Festival (USA), Best Film at Exit 6 Film Festival (UK) and Best
Drama at the BAFTA qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival (UK). It was long-listed for the 2019
BAFTA for Best Short Film.

Her second short, Martha, was awarded a development bursary in 2017 from B3 Media, an
organization dedicated to promoting people of colour in British film. In 2018 Martha was further
developed by Film London and BFI Network and then greenlit by the BFI for production. In 2019 it
received its premiere at the London Film Festival.

She has recently been commissioned by the drama school LAMDA to write four short films for their
2019/20 graduates.

Iona’s writing is driven by female stories and strong visuals. She’s currently working on her first
feature-length screenplay.

Iona is a 2020 Film London Lodestar.
