Johnny Harris
Johnny Harris is a multiple BAFTA-nominated British actor who has starred in some of the most iconic television series and films of the past two decades.
Most recently, he starred opposite Ewan McGregor as Osip Glebnikov in A Gentleman in Moscow, an eight-part series for Showtime and Paramount+, based on Amor Towles’ internationally bestselling novel. He also played the iconic role of Magwitch alongside Olivia Colman in the BBC/FOX/Disney television adaptation of Great Expectations, executive produced by Tom Hardy and Sir Ridley Scott.
Harris received his first BAFTA Award nomination for his portrayal of Mick Jenkins in Shane Meadows’ cult television series This Is England ’86, for which he also earned a Royal Television Society Award nomination. The final episode was recently votedThe Greatest TV Episode of All Time by The Independent. He reprised the role in the subsequent series This Is England ’88 and This Is England ’90.
In 2017, Johnny made his debut as a screenwriter with his critically acclaimed feature film Jawbone, which he also starred in and co-produced. The film earned him a BAFTA Film Award nomination for Outstanding Debut, two BIFA nominations for his leading performance, and a Writers’ Guild Award nomination for his screenplay.
Other recent roles include playing the imprisoned killer Charles Stone in the psychological thriller series Without Sin (ITV), opposite Vicky McClure, and his powerful portrayal of Novichok poisoning victim Charlie Rowley in the BBC drama The Salisbury Poisonings.
His extensive film and television credits include his blistering debut in the cult independent British movie London to Brighton, which was voted into Time Out magazine’s 100 Greatest British Films of All Time: The 2019 BBC adaptation of A Christmas Carol, in which he played Scrooge’s abusive father, Franklin Scrooge (also executive produced by Tom Hardy and Sir Ridley Scott); the epic Netflix/BBC drama Troy: Fall of a City, where he portrayed King Agamemnon; as well as From Darkness (BBC) and Sky’s Fortitude.
He has played major roles in feature films; Snow White and the Huntsman, Welcome to the Punch, and Monsters: Dark Continent, and in television series including Netflix’s Medici and Jack Thorne’s BAFTA-winning apocalyptic BBC series The Fades.
Johnny has also directed two music videos for songwriting legend, Paul Weller’s hit singlesGravity and I Woke Up, following the pairs first collaboration on Johnnys film, Jawbone.
