Chanya Button

Chanya Button is a highly regarded film, television and theatre director & writer.

Her recent directing work for TV includes: Code of Silence (Mammoth Screen / ITV), Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Special: The Giggle (Bad Wolf / BBC), The Killing Kind (Eleventh Hour / Paramount+), The Spanish Princess Series 2 (New Pictures/Amazon Prime/ STARZ) and the World War II drama World on Fire (BBC/Mammoth Screen/PBS).

Her critically acclaimed feature Vita & Virginia received its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2018. It then went on to be the Opening Night Gala Film for BFI Flare in 2019, and was nominated at the BIFA Awards in 2019. Chanya’s directorial debut feature Burn Burn Burn was nominated for the Discovery Award at the BIFA Awards, for an outstanding debut feature, in 2016. Burn Burn Burn premiered at BFI London Film Festival and was later taken on by Netflix. Chanya then went onto win the BFI LOCO Film Festival’s Discover Award for Burn Burn Burn, as an outstanding debut feature in 2016.

Chanya is also writing an adaptation of a novel for NBCUniversal, and developing a feature script based on her own experience of spinal injury.

Chanya is also an alumni of the Royal Court Young Writers Programme, received an MA from RADA in Theatre Directing, and studied English Literature at Oxford University.
