Brian is an award-winning British director. Recent lead director credits for television include five seasons of ALL CREATURES GREAT & SMALL (C5/Playground) and the opening season of DOWNTON ABBEY (ITV/Carnival), for which he won the BAFTA TV Award and Primetime Emmy for Best Director. He was nominated for a second Primetime Emmy for his episodic directing on the second season. He directed all episodes of miniseries DARK ANGEL (ITV/World) and NORTH & SOUTH (BBC) and five single films for television, including Frank McGuinness’ A SONG FOR JENNY (BBC); Adrian Hodges’ adaptation of THE RUBY IN THE SMOKE (BBC); and David Nicholls’ retelling of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING (BBC), for which he won another BAFTA Award for Best Director. His debut studio feature THE BOOK THIEF (20th Century Fox), based on the novel by Marcus Zusak and starring Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson, received BAFTA Award, Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations for its score by John Williams. His short film ABOUT A GIRL (Silver Films) won the BAFTA Award for Best Short Film.
