Mark Brozel

Director

Mark Brozel is an award-winning British-Australian director of television, film and documentary. He is attached to direct feature thriller COUP DE GRÂCE (Red Square Productions), adapted from the Man Booker-shortlisted novel by Roy Jacobsen, written and produced by Tomas Backström and starring Richard Armitage, Jeremy Irvine and Jodhi May. He is also attached to direct Australian crime feature IN A CHILDISH WAY, produced by Berlinale nominee Gal Greenspan and written by award-winning novelist and screenwriter Elliot Perlman. Recent episodic television credits include crime thrillers BORDERLINE (ShinAwiL/Further South/Lionsgate/Roku) and SIGNORA VOLPE S1 (Route 24/Cattleya/Acorn TV/BBC America), Paul W.S. Anderson sci-fi horror ORIGIN (Left Bank/YouTube Red), historical epic TROY: FALL OF A CITY(Kudos/Wild Mercury/BBC/Netflix) and BAFTA-nominated near-future sci-fi HUMANS 2.0 (Kudos/C4/AMC), for which he directed the double-episode season finale. Other work for television includes Peter Moffat’s contemporary retelling of MACBETH (BBC); feature-length romantic drama THE WALK (Granada/Dreamaker/ITV); and true-story single film HOLY CROSS (BBC Northern Ireland/BBC/RTÉ), which garnered a BAFTA nomination, an IFTA award and six festival-circuit wins. He also directed multiple episodes of DICKENSIAN (Red Planet/BBC), DCI BANKS S5 (Left Bank/ITV1) and CASUALTY 1909 (Stone City Films/BBC). His acclaimed documentary fairytale MANGETOUT (BBC Northern Ireland/BBC), which chronicles one vegetable’s journey from Zimbabwean farm to Basingstoke dinner party, won an RTS and One World Media award and was selected by the Chicago Museum of Broadcasting as one of their “Best Documentaries of the Twentieth Century”. Mark has directed the work of a number of celebrated screenwriters, including Primetime Emmy nominee David Farr; BAFTA winner Peter Moffat; and BAFTA nominees Joe Barton, Simon Block and Terry Cafolla. He has also directed screen performances from a host of award-winning actors, including Stephen Rea, David Threlfall, Tom Goodman-Hill, James McAvoy, Letitia Wright, Katherine Parkinson, Keeley Hawes, Ralph Ineson, Toby Kebbell, Anton Lesser, Phoebe Dynevor, Woody Norman and Richard Armitage.
