Nimmo Ismail

​Nimmo Ismail is a British theatre director and writer.

In 2022, she was recognised as one of The Stage 25, highlighting her as one of the most promising theatre practitioners in the UK.

Nimmo trained with the Young Vic as a Jerwood Assistant Director and Boris Karloff Trainee Assistant Director.

As a director, Nimmo has directed shows including Word-Play at the Royal Court Theatre, Two Billion Beats at the Orange Tree Theatre, and Glee & Me at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.

She also has experience in assistant and associate directing roles at theatres such as the National Theatre, Young Vic, Bridge Theatre, and Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.

Ismail participated in the Royal Court Writers Programme, Talawa Theatre Company’s TYPT, the Bush Theatre’s 2020–2021 Allotments Programme, and the Orange Tree Writers Collective. She also served as a Sky Arts Artistic Associate at Theatre Royal Stratford East during the 2022/2023 season, collaborating on various creative projects and supporting the development of emerging artists.

Most recently, she served as Associate Director for the production of Phaedra at the National Theatre and worked as Assistant Director on productions of The Prudes & Goats at the Royal Court Theatre.
