Michael Wynne is an Olivier and BAFTA winning playwright and screenwriter.
The film My Summer of Love won the Outstanding British Film BAFTA and Best Screenplay at the Evening Standard Awards.
He has written many plays for the Royal Court Theatre, London, including his first play, the multi award winning, The Knocky. The People Are Friendly, Who Cares and Olivier Award winning The Priory all premiered at the Royal Court too.
Michael’s most recent play was Cuckoo at the Royal Court Theatre Downstairs and Liverpool Everyman in 2023 directed by Artistic Director Vicky Featherstone as her final show at the theatre.
He has also written plays for other companies including Dirty Wonderland and Sell Out for Frantic Assembly which transferred to the West End, We Are Here at La Mama, New York, Canvas at the Minerva Theatre, Chichester, Tits/Teeth at the Soho Theatre, The Boy Who Left Home for Actors Touring Company, and at the Liverpool Playhouse and Everyman, his play Hope Place was their most successful new play for 20 years.
He has written extensively for TV, including the film Lapland which premiered on BBC1 Christmas Eve, starring Stephen Graham, Sue Johnston and Zawe Ashton and the spin off 6-part series Being Eileen. Other TV includes – Little Crackers/Sheridan Smith, As If, Sugar Rush, Grafters, EastEnders, Where the Heart Is, Mayo Mysteries, UGetMe, Don’t Eat the Neighbours, The Catherine Tate Show and Eyes Down.
Michael wrote DiscoShow – directed by Steven Hoggett – which opened August 2024 at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas and is still running. He has new play Clive – starring Paul Keating and directed by Lucy Bailey – opening July 2025 at the Arcola Theatre, Dalston.
He was born and brought up in Birkenhead. Wynne’s plays are published by Faber and Faber.
