Dom Joly is a multi-award winning British comedian and writer. His smash hit hidden camera series Trigger Happy TV re-defined the genre and was a primetime international phenomenon, selling to over 80 countries around the world with a spin-off series on Comedy Central USA.
Dom also made World Shut Your Mouth for BBC1 and two series of This is Dom Joly for BBC3 as well as two series of Fool Britannia, a prime-time Saturday night comedy show for ITV1. He recently brought back an updated and brand- new series of Trigger Happy to huge acclaim for All4 and Channel 4, now available on Amazon.
He is developing various scripted comedy projects, including a sitcom (Forget the Kids) from his pilot script recently optioned by seasoned comedy producer Mark Freeland at Working Title TV which he intends to write, direct and star in.
Dom has directed several pop videos – Ian Brown, WigWam (Alex James and Betty Boo), Rizzle Kicks, Leisure Society, Nothing But Thieves and Bang Bang Romeo. Most are produced through his production company Shady Cabal, who specialise in hidden camera comedy, ads and virals but also have a deep love of all things music.
Shady Cabal also produced his chart-topping podcast Earworm, created, written and performed by Dom with music by Stephen Jones of Babybird.
But Dom is not just a man who shouts into big phones and crosses the street very slowly dressed as a giant snail.
He is a former diplomat (Prague) and political producer (ITN) turned columnist and multi- award award-winning travel writer. He has written extensively for the Sunday Times, The Independent, The Mail on Sunday and many, many other newspapers and magazines.
Travel is a massive passion for Dom who has visited over ninety countries. He has a long pedigree in TV travel shows as well. In 2018 he travelled the globe for Warner Brothers making a major series called “How Beer Changed The World” which has been sold in 59 territories.
He made the cult travel series Dom Joly’s Happy Hour along with Dom Joly’s Excellent Adventure- both for Sky One in which he respectively travelled the world “investigating cultural attitudes to alcohol” (getting drunk) and embarking on an epic road trip through Lebanon and Syria. He also presented The Rough Guide to Nicaragua for Five.
He has written several successful travel books including The Dark Tourist i (“A travel classic”- Hatchards) in which he vacationed in some of the world’s most dangerous places including a coach tour of North Korea, a skiing holiday in Iran and a weekend in Chernobyl.
In the follow up, Scary Monsters and Super Creeps, Dom became a Monster Hunter, travelling to the Congo to search for The Mkele Mbembe (Blocker of rivers) The Himalayas, looking for the Yeti and on a near-death experience in Northern California while hunting Bigfoot.
Adventure runs in his blood; his latest book The Hezbollah Hiking Club in which he walks the length of his childhood home, the Lebanon, with two friends is published by Constable and Robinson/Little Brown in June 2019.
Next up he embarks on an (Amazon) Audible Original project “Such Miserable Weather” Dom Joly’s Great British Road Trips. A project conceived in the advent of Brexit as he started to wonder whether he had been ignoring the simpler joys of travel at home.
This summer he sets off on four road trips round the four countries of the Union to explore the weird, wonderful and woeful attractions that this sceptred isle can offer.
Dom is the master of ad-lib or improv. In America this would lead to things like Curb Your Enthusiasm or Spinal Tap. In the UK improv means pretending to be stuck in a lift with John Sessions. So, Dom has often practised his art in the script-free universe of reality TV. He LOVES a challenge and shows he has appeared on include-

Dom has won several awards for his travel writing and the Silver Rose of Montreux, BBC2 Award, Loaded Lafta and is a three times nominee for the British Comedy awards for his TV work.
Dom as recently been starring as the Narrator in Trafalgar Entertainment’s 2018-2019 tour of Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show which began in Brighton this Christmas, with Dom joining the cast again in various other locations including Milton Keynes and Bristol throughout 2019.
He lives in the Cotswolds with his wife, two kids, two pigs, two dogs and one cat. He is a hot-air balloonist in his spare time and is an ambassador for Save the Children recently travelling to the front line of the war in the Ukraine as well as trips to the Syrian border to visit refugee camps. He speaks French and Arabic and a smattering of Czech.
