Margaret Perry

Margaret Perry is a playwright and screenwriter from Cork, based in London.

She recently wrote an episode of Samantha Strauss’s series GROWN UPS (See-Saw / Netflix), and past TV credits include THE WOMAN IN THE WALL (BBC / Showtime) and DEAD RINGERS (Amazon).

Margaret‘s first play PORCELAIN ran at the Abbey in 2018 and was later recorded for BBC Radio 4 with Jessie Buckley starring. COLLAPSIBLE ran in London, Dublin and Edinburgh where it won a number of awards, and had an extended, sell-out, 6-week run at the Bush theatre. PARADISE NOW!, her third play, sold out and received brilliant reviews at the Bush Theatre, and was nominated for an Olivier Award in 2023.

Her play BLUETS, an adaptation of Maggie Nelson’s celebrated poetry / prose hybrid, ran at the Royal Court in May/June 2024, directed by Katie Mitchell, and starring Ben Whishaw and Emma D’Arcy.

Her plays are published by Nick Hern Books.

She has been part of the Soho Writers Lab, the Royal Court Young Writers Programme, the Royal Court Supergroup 2019, led by Alice Birch and Alistair McDowell, and was a BFI Flare X Bafta Mentee in 2021, mentored by Sean Durkin.

She is under commission for new plays at the Donmar Warehouse, Soho Theatre and the Abbey Theatre. She has been a writer in residence at the National Theatre, the RSC, and she is a MacDowell Fellow.

She has original television projects in development with Drama Republic/BBC, House Productions, Balloon, Hat Trick, and Number 9. She is developing feature films with House Productions & It’s All Made Up.
